visit my music blog at http://tattooedheartsbrokenpromises.blogspot.com/ for video, audio and free downloads of my bands the past 25 years including The BRUISERS, NPD, Cadillac Hitmen, Death & Taxes and more.

Recently picked up playing slide, thought I'd put a video up. Hope you enjoy it. (update Dec 2010) It is very humbling to hear so many comments from people who enjoy this video. I have to say, this is really basic playing, and anyone can do it with a little practice. There are a lot of guys on YouTube that play AMAZING slide, Kenny Lee Burgess, Deltablues4761, Bottleneck John and others. You can see them in my favorites that I subscribe to. You really should check these guys out, you'll love it. BTW, since this was recorded I have switched to fingerstyle. I recommend anyone starting out avoid the crutch I used with the pick and just jump in with both feet. (update JAN 2011) for those who are interested in the gear - the instrument is a Republic Tricone. The recording setup uses both an amplified track and a room mic. If you look closely you can see the neck mounted LACE pickup. This is a slim humbucker made specifically for this type of application. It gives what you would expect, a more electric blues sound than natural acoustic tone. This sounds really great through a cranked old National lap steel amp for instance. The electric signal is going into a Behringer V-Amp Pro where I'm adding reverb and tremelo and using a Fender tweed deluxe type of amp setting. The acoustic track is actually 3 tracks, believe it or not. There are 2 pencil condenser mics in an XY pattern overhead and just out of view directly in front of the me is a Studio Projects C1 condenser. The 4 tracks are sent to a TASCAM 2488 NEO digital multitrack where I mixed the final track down. So you're not hearing the audio from the video camera at all. I synched-up the audio and video as best I could in Corel Video Studio. Of course uploading in a low quality flash video doesn't do a lot to help the final result, but you get the idea. The actual audio track sounds a lot better, and in case anyone would like a copy in lossless or MP3 format just shoot me an email, I'll give you a link to download it no charge. Thanks again for all the positive words, this encouragement is much appreciated!

  • wow. the lows are huge. awesome. did you get it routed yourself or do they offer models like that from the factory?

  • @usfenderfsdlx It's not routed, it's a surface mounted slim pickup with adhesive backing.

  • What key is this in so I can play harp to it?

  • What haven't you put up anymore videos of the Tricone. Nice diffrent sound and looks

like thats on my order book with the pickup aswell.

  • @alphasxsignal thanks for the encouragement, maybe I will try and do something new

  • (i mean for the pickup)

  • is this the resonator?

  • Beautiful.

  • That is so cool! listened to it over and over when I found it. Might I ask where you found the tabs or do you have them somewhere?

  • killer sustain!!

  • Very Good. I sold my Regal chrome resonator a few years ago. (not because I wanted to), I'm looking for another except I want and electric/acoustic. I'm gonna check on the Republics. If you don't mind check out my video of an original blues/rock version of "Count your Blessings" "Lap Steel'. That should bring it up. Thanks.
