This is my take on the Turtle Topper, not to be mistaken with the one you can order online, just got this idea from seeing it and figured I could make my own for about half the cost. Parts consist of the base that is 1/4 inch thick plastic cut to 11-1/2 inch wide to fit from lip to lip of my 20 gallon long turtle tank by 11 inches in length. I cut a 7-1/4 inch by 1/2 inch board into two 14 inch pieces for the sides, one 10 inch piece for the back and cust a 5-1/2 inch by 1/2 inch board to 10 inch length as well to be the front piece that has to allow for the ramp and shell clearance at entrance to basking area. I used a couple different length screws (see video) shorter ones for the plastic base to wood connection, longer for the wood to wood. I used a plug in drill, screw driver and table saw to make the proper lengths and holes.

  • jalbm is right. if your going with a diy project make sure its worth the effort. considering cost of material and your other accessory, I'd say you could have bought a pretty good commercial topper. fyi, your turtles look tiny. it takes time for turtles to get comfortable with these toppers - ie more than a few days.

  • @MrJimbobwae They are in a 90 gallon acrylic with a real Turtle Topper now. Check out the new vids are up. Thanks!

  • Not trying to be a "D", but you shoulda just bought a turtle topper dude, $45 bux, and unlike wood you can clean it and wont rot and stink up your whole house after months of moisture. Also you'll be able to upgrade to a 55gallon tank easily.

  • @jalbm222 I guess I should of updated. I bought The Turtle Topper a few weeks later and they've been in love with it ever since. Also upgraded to a 55 gallon a ways back and upgraded again to a 90 gallon acrylic last week.

  • Snapping turtle do bask.

  • @cpaint904 snappers dont bask

  • Where did you get your turtles?

  • i just made my own, how long will it take them to start using it? snapper and map turtle both about 6 inches long

  • @BaseballCardFreek Sorry, but i will kindly disagree that the turtle topper is a waste. My baby slider spends 1/3 of his time on the ramp, and underwater dock just relaxing, 1/3 catching some rays and heat inside, and the rest swimmin like a freak in the tank. I put some rocks, and fake plants in mine since my last video, and he loves it. To me it is a crucial part of my turtles happiness.

  • @jalbm222 The turtle topper is a waste. But him using wood was kinda dumb of him though. Just use egg crate and pexiglass.
