Gallop Armed Police Unit, also known as Cosmic Cop, is a side scrolling shoot 'em up arcade game developed by Irem in year 1991. The player pilots an R-Type fighter, the R-11B Peace Maker.
The screen scrolls continuously to the right, but Gallop is unusual in that the scroll rate can be controlled by the player. The further right the player's craft is oriented onscreen the faster the game scrolls. Significant bonus points are awarded for completing the levels quickly.
Gameplay progress through five different zones, each culminating with a boss. Story; taking place concurrently with RType Delta, Gallop sees the player as a member of a private security organization tasked with hunting down berserk vehicles driven by the Bydo Mad Cars.

We've gotten Taito, Midway, Namco, Activision, Intellivision, Atari, Capcom, Snk compilations on the PS2. I think Irem should be next. Games like Air Duel. Blade Master, Dragon Breed, Cosmic Cop, Hook, Image Fight, In The Hunt, Kung-Fu Master, Lethal Thunder, Moon Patrol, Mystic Riders, R-Type 1,2 plus so many more gems.

It's hard playing like R-Type, but the future & metal style like Undercover Cops is always my favorite.

This looks like a IREM game for sure but the music to me has a very "Sega Genesis/Mega Drive" feel to it.
