@314edwood It kind of depends on a few different factors. If you're starting with smaller discus, you could do 5 IF you have good filtration and are sure to do the weekly water changes. Since you have 20 tetras in there already, I would only recommend 3 discus.

i want to do a discus tank but am unsure of how many i can do in my 46 gal bowfront... i heard 1 per 10 gallons, then i see 40 gallon tanks with 8 discus in it haha.... i have about 20 rummynose tetra in the tank now and a bunch of plants..... how many would u recommend?

@314edwood I have 4 of them now but no, I don't have any fighting problems.

do u have any problems with the discus fighting since there is 3 of them?

Way cool tank! What did you use for substrate? Is that just sand? Do you have a video with your Yellow Melon discus in it?

@TheDarkGoby Hey thanks! I just used regular white play sand, but I'm actually thinking about going back to black gravel or something like that. I don't have a video yet of the yellow melon. The blue diamond and yellow melon are in a separate tank right now (I'm trying to get them to mate) but I hope to have another video up soon. :]

okay so far i know im getting them from Gwynnbrook Farms in MD.... now when u say small do u mean about 2"? i have a Rena XP2 as my filtration... what do u have as far as lighting and filtration? do u have a UV sterilizer?

@314edwood Yeah 2 " is small and that filter should work for your filtration. As for lighting, I have live plants so I have about 150 watts right now and I don't have a UV sterilizer. If you don't have live plants, you can use whatever lighting you want.
