Old Dan Tucker may have been the first popular music hit in America. The words may have been written by songwriter and performer Dan Emmett, but we know that the blackface troupe the Virginia Minstrels popularized the song in 1843. I'm playing Old Dan Tucker on a reproduction minstrel banjo made by Mike Ramsey. This is what a banjo would have looked like prior to the Civil War. No frets, skin head, and gut strings, quite different from banjos today. And a much different sound. Hope you like.
