At around 11:00 pm on Tuesday night Jan. 10, 2012, Madison city patrolman Brooks was on foot patrol and discovered that a Tallahassee Democrat newspaper machine was missing from in front of the post office. Dispatch immediately issued a BOLO (be on the lookout) for an older model truck described by witnesses.
Moments before the BOLO, MCSO Sgt. Boatwright had just pulled away from a disabled vehicle on Saint Augustine Road. The vehicle had run out of gas and had pulled off the road on the shoulder. The driver stated that he was waiting on someone to bring him gas. The truck fit the description of the truck observed at the scene of the crime. Upon return, Sgt. Boatwright saw the newspaper machine lying in the grass approximately 100 yards behind the truck along with tracks in the grass leading from the newspaper machine to the truck where it ran out of gas.
