This is a basic demonstration of how to colorize a black and white photograph using layers in Gimp. When using a black and white image of any nature you can segment the image in to layers and colorize the layer with a filter pack. Also adjusting the Brightness and Contrast will allow more flexibility in accomplishing the desired effect. This example could be futhered by creating layers for the background, mouth and teeth. The very last step would be to save your work in the form of a jpg, however you could save as a .xcf to allow for further editing in the future.
