RTE Christmas show 1970
This is a recording from the 1970 television show by the Irish RTE. Patricia Cahill sings the beautiful song "The Eyes of a Child". Recorded from the 405 line network on a Sony CV2000B video tape recorder. The signal was received with a small Sony TV accompanying the Sony VTR. Reception with the rabbit ear antenna, what explains the somewhat unstable picture and sound quality.

  • @fairhillnorrie No, and there were no battered wives, no drunk drivers or bad priests. And sure even the leprachauns were able to go around with thier pots of gold. Ah, the good old days.

  • I don't suppose any continuity announcements survive from before the programme starts or after it ends, do they? That would be an excellent find. I haven't seen much RTE presentation from this era, if any!

  • @fairhillnorrie No drugs? Lots of a famous drug called alcohol!!!

  • A lot of bad stuff was happening in Ireland then which has thankfully come to the light of day.

  • I tried but I just kept thinking what a curmudgeon you are and how you need to get over yourself.

  • Wow, thanks, must be some great stuff in the RTE archives.

  • I love stuff like this from a more innocent age! Interestingly, the song is the English language version of 'Un jour un enfant' which was joint winner of the 1969 Eurovision Song contest for France.

  • Of course, on RTE Television, they don't have any commercial interruptions on Christmas Day. When I first came over to Ireland in 1972, I was suprised that they had ads, but only between programs or one or two times during a movie. Irish TV is very intersting, don't you think?
