I have to agree with browncello - there was a media furore about not flying the Royal Standard at half mast. Eventually the Queen aquiesced and it was flown at half-mast for the first time in history. See other videos posted by 324wilson - not even at her father's funeral!

Andrew Morton is a shameless media whore I am so sick of this incessant Diana worship. How disgusting that we were all clamouring for Her Majesty's tears as though there was something positive to be had by members of the Royal Family breaking down in public! How many of us when faced with such a devastating personal loss would think even for a second of making an ostentatious public show of our very private grief?! Give me a bloody break!

@browncello I agree and shame on people who want celebrities to do things the way they want them to do. They too are human and have different feelings, wants and also rights. It is only when we are in their shoes that we will understand that life is overwhelming and sometimes you have to draw the line and not give a damn about what people want you to do, but stick to your guns.

It must be so weird to young and have adults bowing to you! I admire the Queen and the (immediate) Royal Family so much, they've been through so much and she can't really ever leave work like we do in our 9-5 (ish) jobs. She's seen 12 prime ministers come and go and they do so much for this country, particularly through their charities. I don't get why people don't want a monarchy because it's the MPS who truely make the rules, and it's probably the most loved monarchy in the world!

I don't think the Queen was particlarly insensitive about Diana's death,as Morton implies. She may well have 'misjudged' the feeling of the nation but as nothing like this had happened 'so close to home' before it must have,(privately at least),knocked her for 6.Also,she had her 2 grandsons to consider.And given that Diana was no longer styled HRH,or officially a member of the royal family the Queen would naturally expect that the Spencer family would organize Diana's funeral.
