Stayed at the best B&B in Granada for a week with my wife and 9yo daughter. A true un-manufactured adventure which will make you think twice about ever staying in an all-inclusive resort ever again. Don't fly to another country and stay somewhere that might as well be Ft. Lauderdale. Locals were friendly and helpful. Beer and Rum so cheap it is practically free. Best steak and chicken dinners we ever had for a fraction of what we pay in the states. Never felt concerned for our safety. Probably would have spent more money to stay at Disney for the weekend. Ignore your friends whose idea of a vacation is a trip to Wally World. They will seem even more foolish when you return from this wonderful place.

Did all my research over the web before we went. Wanted to find a place vacant of tourists but safe at the same time. Nica is Costa Rica 10-15 years ago. Locals were great. Plenty of backpacker low-budget lodging etc. Weather in July was warm but not too bad / 85 deg f. Planning on going back and doing Ometepe and Blue Fields; possibly tarpon fishing in Lake Nica.
