Thank you for the beautiful selection. It was done with such grace. I am a 42 yr old Black woman who is learning about is work for the
1st time. Thank God for education and the people who teach it. Never again will I dwell in darkness.

This is a beautiful piece. I hope some of this forgotten repertoire will make it into the recital canon.

I heard this song for the first time today on the radio because none (NONE) of the other radio stations had anything good on. All the same pop stuff I've heard twelve million times already. I fell in love with this song...however, the version I heard on the radio sounded like it was sung by an older woman. Does anyone out there know what version is played on the radio???? I know I don't have a lot to go on, but I'd really appreciate any info.

But I heard the voice of my Lawd callin’
Talk about a child dat do love Jesus,

The W.G. Still Piano works from Naxos are quite good. I am really excited about what Naxos is doing.
In my opinion William Levi Dawson's Negro American Folk Symphony is to me a better symphony than the William Still's Afro American Symphony. Still probably paved the way for the latter work conducted by Leopold Stokowski.

Yes, there are still so many orchestral (and chamber, and solo...) works by composers of African descent that haven't yet regained their rightful place in the repertoire.
