Tuesdays at 9/8c on History — With the success of The Universe which is a series that looks far beyond the horizon we are looking to personalize our small corner of the universe via the web with our new short form series The Backyard Astronomer. Every month we will give viewers a star map for that month so that they can go out and identify the stars they see in the night sky. Other episodes will give viewers a chance to learn how to navigate using the stars and what the different phases of the moon mean. The Backyard Astronomer will also show a solar eclipse and explain how to safely view one. The UniverseIt's time for a new look at a very old universe. In its mysteries, we are finding the secrets of our past and the key to our future. Fifty years have flown by since man first ventured into outer space, but the heavens are only now yielding their greatest secrets. Robotic rovers give us eyes on the red rock of Mars. NASA probes slam into comets at hyper-speed. Deep space telescopes capture violent images of the birth of stars and their collapse into black holes.
Cool, the showers peak on my birthday Oct. 21 =)

If it's a clear night whenever you go trick-or-treating on Halloween night, Orion's ghost will be looking down on you! Beware!

The imagery for the constellations in this clip come from the free program Stellarium. If your interested in learning about constellations or just want to know what that bright thing in the sky is. You should look it up
