I made a website and drew up the plans for my trebuchet (on my page) a few years ago. I offered them free, with an option to donate to pay-pal, but no interest was ever shown and it was removed. I guess I just didn't market it right....

@Ownage2themax3 One end of the sling is permanently fixed to the end of the throwing arm, the other end of the sling has a loop (something like a washer) which slides over a 3-5 in. pin that sticks out of the top of the arm. When the trebuchet is fired, it swings around and the washer slides off the pin releasing one side of the sling and thus the projectile flies free, escaping the sling and firing successfully. It may take some tuning to get the pin at the correct angle.

How do you design the sling to hold on to the ball for the upward acceleration, then let it fall off once it has momentum? Is it just pure centrifugal force that's "pushing" it off of the sling?
I'm trying to design a trebuchet, myself.

It depends on the mass of the counterweight. The idea is to get the furthest distance with the least potential energy.

what is the weight of said projectile, cause if it's less than a pound, then that's pathetic. i mean if it's like 10 pounds, then 300 feet is amazing
