Music: Killing in the name of by RATM
Pick of Destiny by Tenacious D

I used the Sandbox 2 editor to make the structures that I messed with

the commands I used (to get rid of HUD etc...) are:

i_unlimitedammo=1 (infinite ammo no reload)
g_godmode=1 (invincible)
r_displayinfo=0 (get rid of the FPS and other info in top right corner of editor)
sys_physics_cpu=0
cl_hud=0
e_particles=0 (gets rid of particles...I used this for all the ones that are not explosions...you need particles to see fire)
e_particles=1 (brings particles back)
fixed_time_step=0.0166665 (tells Crysis sandbox2 to take a screenshot every 0.016665 seconds..i.e.about 60FPS for most of the vids)
capture_frames=1 (starts frame capture)
capture_frames=0 (stops frame capture)

originally I was going to use FRAPS but you get smoother renders by letting Sandbox2 take the screenshots.

When you use capture_frames=1/0 frames are stored in the crysis directory (should be C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crysis\CaptureOutput) for me its C:\Program Files (x86) (b/c I'm on a 64bit machine)

To turn the frames into a video you need a program called VirtualDub you can get here: http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/

To play the videos backwards I used a program called File Renamer to rename all the screenshots in reverse order then recompile the video in virtual dub. (i know there is another way using AVIsynth but I couldn't get it to work...this was an easy alternative)

1. To use VirtualDub simply extract the downloaded file (there is no install)
2. go to where you extracted it and run the .exe
3.a blank window will open, go to file-open video file
4. a box will apear browse to the CaptureOutput director like I talked about before.
5. only select the first frame it should be called Frame000000.jpg then hit open
6.It will automatically load all frames after the one you select.
7.you can watch the video in virtual dub.
8. to change the FPS press ctrl-r and select change framerate to...
9. to save the video as a smooth .avi you are gonna want to change some things.
10. go to options-performance and change all the sliders to the max. ( I honestly don't know if this is what makes the video smoother or if it s the other stuff I do.)
11. Hit ok
12. If you want to change the default FPS so you don't have to keep changing it go to options-preferences-images and change it.
13. next go to options-preferences-3D accel and make sure the check box is checked (again, don't know if this is what fixes smoothness)
14. now press ctrl-r and under where you changed fps there is an option that says process every other frame, select that.
15. now go to video compression and select the first Intel codec called Intel IYUV Codec. If you don't have it, get it. I had it already so idk where to get it.
16. go to video and select preserve empty frames.
17. Now you can go to file save as .avi
18. keep in mind when you exit virtual dub it does not hold all your setting you have to do this over and over again.

**if you used fixed_time_step=0.0166665 then 60fps in virtual dub looks best
**you may also use fixed_time_step=0.0333333 for 30fps

My system specs:
AMD phenom II AM3 quad core 3.4ghz black edition
4gig DDR3 ram at 1600mhz
850watt PSU
ATI RadeonHD4890 1gig over-clocked edition
MSI mobo (don't feel like looking up exactly what it is)

**another thing to remember you do not need a good computer to do this.. when i rendered some of those videos I was seeing them at 4 or 5 FPS (this is normal) its only after all the frames are in Vdub that it looks smooth.

**another thing to remember, after you save as .avi in Vdub you don't need the frames anymore so delete them that way you can make another video. If you don't the new frames will be added to the old ones.

The maps i used were village.cry and island.cry
there are probably some good tutorials on how to stack nice structures. For me, I just figured it out its pretty self explanatory
It was a pain for me to spawn things at first though so I'll tell ya. In snadbox2 there is going to be something called Database view..thats what you looking for...idk exactly where it is b/c i've seen it in a drop down thing and i've seen it as a tool bar called "DB" so look for a DB button or database view. once your there the exploding barrels are in:
Entity Library-"select drop down box and choose" PROPS-"then in the list choose" local-storage-barrels and its the first one.

for all the crazy spinning and stuff i used a tornado and set the viewdist to 0 tornado are in entities.

If you have any questions comment and ask I read them

***and yes I know the video isn't cropped the best and doesn't fill the whole screen and stuff...it was my first time using Adobe premier and I don't really know how to use it well yet....My second video will be much better when I get around to making it

  • whats the name of that 1st song

  • @cliffstorm Killing in the name of by RATM

  • is there some way to change resolution at which screenshots will be taken, one guy said that he knows the way to make video at 40000 x 20000, but i dont know if that makes any difference because textures are not that large

  • @TheKjex I'm not sure, and by the looks of those numbers, I would guess he is lying (they are too round, usually resolutions are like 1920x1080 not 1000x2000). I'm also pretty sure the resolutions of the screenshots taken are the same that you are running the editor in. For example I was running my in 1080p (1920x1080) therefore the images taken were also in 1080p.(the video quality did suffer when i converted and uploaded so on youtube i don't think the individual frames are 1080p)

  • @vix597 i found way, command is e_screenshot_width and e_screenshot_height , and e_screenshot 1 to take screenshot. I took one in resolution 19200x10800. It is only good if u want to zoom in later on objects, but i dont see the use of that. Anyway I just wanted to know if its possible :)

  • @TheKjex Oh i see. I thought you meant increase the resolution so that all the screenshots were taken to make the entire video that resolution. Which I'm sure you could do with that command now that i understand what its doing. But the image sizes must be huge when you do that

  • @vix597 19200x10800 is 73 MB large in jpg format :)

  • @MinerXful lol, I think my build at the time was just AMD Phenom II quad 3.4GHZ 4gig DDR3 1600 and Radeon HD4890 1Gig OCed edition, but I've done a significant upgrade since then and I'm currently working on a video using the new Sandbox 3 that was leaked with the Crysis 2 Beta

  • hmm nice what supercomputer model are you running this on?

  • @PyroKetchup Yea even though SW:TOR is coming soon, I think I'm going to get Crysis while I wait.
