Here's a demo of the best thing to hit text input in years, Swype, running in beta form on a Motorola DROID Android smartphone. I also demo Swype's notes app, which shows better editing support.

The touchscreen keyboards are qwerty format. If you're saying you don't like typing on a little built in keyboard, I completely agree.

I don't. I hate QWERTY keyboards. I can type much faster on a touchscreen keyboard than I can on a physical one. I can type just as fast on a touchscreen keyboard as I can on a full size desktop one (about 75wpm), but on a QWERTY smartphone keyboard, that goes down to about 25-30wpm.
