    Number one works once in a while but there is very little better the #2, always works for me.

  • i remember those types.i noticed older radios like from the 80's pick up more radio stations and are clearer then the new ones.they were made well too with wood and metal not like plastic these days.

  • The scratchy noises when adjusting the volume, are due to a bad connection in the potentiometer; the electronic component inside that the volume knob "operates". There are three possible remedies, which may be tried in the following order:

    1. Slide the volume all the way up and down several times.

    2. Use a *GOOD* quality contact spray on the innards of the potentiometer

    3. If you're insanely lucky, you might be able to find a replacement potentiometer.
