@JudgeNaughtBand yeah master of puppets is a hard song to downpick and downpicking is a good thing to do. alternate picking is better. ive only learnt to alternate pick in the last 2 months and im shit at it. the only part of mop i cant down pick is the solo

You learn to downpick that fast by long hours upon hours of practice, I started working on my downpicking with Master of Puppets by Metallica and to be honest I'm still not as great as I'd like to be but compared to where I was a few months ago I've grown by leaps and bounds.
There is no subistitute for the endless hours of practice and study the guitar requires but as long as you keep at it you'll get there

@NuttStock You have to downpick the verses, most Trivium songs are like that. Wouldnt sound right alternate picking...
