When you translate something from a different language your are translating idea for idea not word for word. So ofcourse you are going to get a bunch of wacky crap in the bible if you don't know what was actually meant. A comma in a sense can cause the sentence to have an entirely different meaning. So you should bully how people interpret the bible, not the bible itself.

I've recently started my own journey through the bible, beginning (as you said) at the ACTUAL beginning. My favorite part in all of Genesis 1 though is how it says God made the stars on the 4th day. With an amateur telescope, you can see stars that are 100 million light years away, meaning the light took 100 million years to reach earth. With the simple existence of stars, I don't understand how anyone can believe the earth is only a few thousand years old.

Christian apologists (Strobel, Holding, Craig, etc) are the people who make an art of ducking and maneuvering around the obvious problems with the Bible by trying to make it seem like it's this complcated thing that you can only understand if you are in a relationship with God. People who want to believe this stuff usually think they're making a good point. The rest of us spot the dishonesty though.

Its no compromise to say there is symbolic imagery is used in the Bible. I'm not sure if Christian apologist is an insult or what it exactly means, but when I read literature by ancient people who claim truth, I look to see the parallels with truth. What I like about the Bible is, like with Genesis, those parallels are very transcendent with the reality we know

You have all the information, but your judging this concept to harshly. I went into reading Genesis only with the notion that it claimed to be true, knowing what I know from scientific theory and unified field theory I simply put those possibilities out there, when I read it it panned out like a very briefly summarized depiction of the beginning of the universe in terms we can relate to. This could have been the best way people could express creation in those ancient times needless to say
