A scene from the 1984 TV-Movie 'Fatal Vision' (based on the novel of the same name by Joe McGinniss) dramatizing the story of Dr. Jeffrey MacDonald. In 1979, MacDonald, a Green Beret captain, was convicted of murdering his pregnant wife, Colette, and their two young daughters, Kimberly and Kristen. He continues to maintain that a band of drug-crazed hippies actually committed the murders.

In this scene, Jeffrey MacDonald (Gary Cole) is questioned by CID investigators Franz Grebner (Barry Corbin), William Ivory (Scott Paulin) and Robert Shaw (Andy Wood). Although this is a dramatization, the dialogue is taken almost verbatim from the actual recording of the interview. Members of the jury said that hearing the tape of MacDonald's interview was instrumental in their decision to convict him.

BTW, I have no idea why the video begins with a couple of seconds from later in the scene; some problem with the original video. Sorry.

  • Forensics in this case prove he is a liar. Oddly, he even lied about Kristy wetting the bed. It was Kimmy, the older daughter. The urine had her blood type and not her sisters and every member of the family had a different blood type.

  • @carriemindpls1 I agree. I've always suspected that the older child wetting the bed is what started the fight, which would explain why MacDonald would try and divert attention from the issue. There has to be something behind him lying about such an apparently insignificant detail.

  • @jksonny Kassab (MacDonald's father in law) stated in his notes that he speculated MacDonald was molesting Kimmy and Colette walked in a caught him. Kassab also said that there was no way she would have let it go, she would have done something about it and MacDonald knew it.

  • @Kathylouu Yes. I've heard the theory but I'm not sure I completely buy it. I think it's possible but I still believe it's more likely that Mac was a stressed-out psychopath that finally let his rage out over something small like the oldest child wetting the bed; the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back.

  • hello I want to know if this serie Fatal Vision is in Spanish?

where can I get it? I expect your reply

  • @esveroarg I don't know if it's available in Spanish. If they ever release it on DVD, it might have a Spanish option but I don't know when that might be.

  • Grebner, Shaw and Ivory knew that MacDonald was the lone killer, and also knew that he was thinking he could con anyone. If MacDonald did not gave this interview, on tape, chances are that he would not be prosecuted. Ultimately, MacDonald sealed his own faith.

  • The actor portraying the killer is mesmerizing! I saw the movie when I was a kid and still remember his performance! Gave me chills then and now.

  • People, this episode had all the hallmarks of amphetamine psychposis induced rage. Just like OJ Simpson killed his victims in a meth rage. Meth users at the time - there were several in my immediate sphere - spotted this for what it was.

  • This fact is imho proof that Jeffrey MacDonald's own behaviour led ultimately to his rightfull conviction.

  • Franz Grebner is imho one of the keyplayers in this case. The CID had doubts during the investigation directly after the murders. They had already collected some evidence they knew did not match his story. During the April 6th interview they lured him into a trap and caught his contradictions on tape. If he had kept his mouth shut from the beginning, the gvt. would have had a harder case!

  • I wonder if he us trying to make it like some of the Manson family killed his family

  • Ironicy, he was found guilty of every murder charge EXCEPT for his wife's. And she was 6 months pregnate too
