DPS Guitar (Auto-tuning Guitar)

Team Members: Adekunbi Adewunmi, Christopher Caplinger, Johnson Nguyen, Stephen Sclafani, Priya Tirur
Customer: Professor Robert Kotiuga (BU ECE)

Our system will implement an auto tuning module that will be designed on a travel guitar. The design will provide accurate tuning and will facilitate the process of tuning a guitar for the user. Our final deliverable will be a working prototype of the module, implemented on the body of a travel guitar, with a control knob to identify varying tuning schemes. We begin by working on the frequency analysis sub module, which will take in an input audio signal from the guitar pickups, and accurately identify and denoise the signal sent to the microcontroller. The microcontroller will then compare the analyzed frequency of the signal to a reference frequency stored in its memory. A signal will then be sent to the servo motors mounted directly on the tuning pegs to turn clockwise or counterclockwise, accordingly. As the motors turn, the microprocessor is continually getting an input as to what the frequency of that string and compares it to its table of stored values. Once the frequency reaches the desired frequencys value, the motors will come to a halt. The guitars overall tuner module will be constructed so that it is unobtrusive to the player, and maintains a functional and user-friendly interface.
