A profile of Melanie DeMore and her work with the traditional Gullah art of stick pounding.

"Stick & Pound" was IDOM's official entry into the 2008 International Documentary Challenge.

Entirely conceived and completed within a 5-day period between March 4th-10th, 2008. Assigned genre was 'art'.

It won the "Best Directing" and "Best Cinematography" awards in the competition.

  • I loved it and Melanie DeMore is a terrific artist/teacher! She has given spirited workshops for Cal Performances and will be part of the performing arts center's Fall Free for All September 26, 2010 and will lead a free Stick Pounding event on the UC Berkeley campus.
