My astronomy professor discussed this song in class today since she mentions a "total eclipse of the sun" in Nova Scotia. Since Warren Beatty's mother lives there, he assumed she was singing about him. I googled it, and apparently she sang the guy's name backwards on a rerecording of it. I don't know how true that it, but the name on the record (there was a name) was a manager of hers who promoted Joni Mitchell (her rival) over her, making her mad.

Most people think this song was written about Mick Jagger. But the truth is no one truly knows. Carly has been offerd alot of money numerous times to disclose who it is actually about but has never accepted an offer. That in my opinion makes the song even better because it is open to wide speculation. It is also interesting that many people have gone so far as studying every lyric in the song and tried to link it with someone from her past.
