ArmA 2 - British Armed Forces (LITE)

Yesterday, Bohemia Interactive Studios released it's DLC content, British Armed Forces, for ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead. Along with this, they released a new patch updating the base Operation Arrowhead game to version 1.54. Included in this patch, is a "light" version of the BAF units. This is a video of the "light" BAF units included in said 1.54 patch, NOT the "full" actual purchased DLC.

Holy fucking shit, look at them. Fucking LOOK at them. And oh lord, their goddamn voices. That one guy's face is going to give me nightmares. Their voices sound like they were resampled through a blender.

I think this was a MAJOR jackass move.

Fuck you BIS, for putting these light versions that look like fucking dog shit into my game. They're a fucking eyesore. And they sound fucking terrible, too. Who the fuck would want to even use these light versions? Why include them at all if they're fucking horrible and useless? Just to get us to shell you the cash when missions start using these units, and the people that don't have them are forced to see and hear this junk? Fuck you.

Sure, I'll be buying the BAF units, you fucking golddiggers. But why even do this? It's a fucking bitch move. Who the fuck wants to be playing this beautiful game, and end up joining a server that's playing a mission with these units (when you don't own the DLC), so you end up seeing these fucking filthy vomit textures? Fuck you BIS.

In my opinion, this is the most forceful, devious, and generally annoying way to get a consumer to buy their product. I can understand VBS2 addons costing money, as they are marketed to a different audience (military and actual simulation use), but now they're starting to get a bit cocky. They could have made it a separate, optional addon.

"Hey, here's some new units. Oh? You don't want to pay? Don't have the cash right now? Well then, you'll have to put up with these disgusting pieces of trash until you throw us some money."

Just waiting for all the BIS fanboys to get on this video like flies on shit. I bet they'll start spewing how this was a fantastic idea and all kinds of other praising bullshit. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the full version is a nifty addon. Is it necessary to play the game? No. Will it be necessary in the future for many user-made missions that are played online? I wouldn't doubt it, of fucking course. Do I personally WANT this addon? No, not really. I don't give a shit about British units in my game. But in the back of my mind, I know for a fact I'll NEED to have it, as communities like TacticalGamer, ShackTactical, and others will be using it. After ten minutes of playing with these low-quality placeholders, I'll WANT to buy the DLC after dealing with their agonizing voices and textures.

Money's the name of the game and all BIS fanboys are sheep. Am I the only one that even notices these things? The same can be said for Operation Arrowhead. It can be a standalone expansion, or combined content. Tell me, how many of the larger communities are still playing base ArmA 2, or base OA? Exactly. The player base moved onto Combined Operations because we have to -- whether we give a shit about SCARs and Takistan, or not. Now we the same can be said for BAF. It's the same situation, but they're calling it a DLC, when in fact, it may as well be called a necessary expansion. Four more DLCs later down the road, you'll have paid over $145 to expand your game with things that modders would have done down the road eventually. SCARs, terrorists, and Afghanistan-like islands were made by modders for the original ArmA, and things like that were made -- or in the progress of being made -- for ArmA 2. The only difference now is we have to pay for these mods, since they're made by the developers.

Don't even think of leaving a comment like, "Bohemia is a small company and can't afford to yadayada." They just pumped out ArmA 2, OA, and this DLC within the timeframe of year and two months, with more DLCs to come! Don't be fucking stupid, they have cash and resources. Now they're just being greedy, forcing us to purchase this content in the long run, whether it's necessity or not, and they're all things that can be user-made, or are already. If I want British weapons, I'll download UKF weapons pack. If I want British units, I'll grab SJB SAS units. And they're entirely goddamn optional, that's the beauty of this game. They should stick to making patches, and keeping their hands out of our wallets.

if you read BIS statement on the release, you would have found out why these units are in the game

its so people who wont get the BAF can still play with their clan or even public servers, its not meant to amazing looking or anything, therefore, your rant is pointless

I know why they're there there, but why are you missing the point? Why would you WANT to play with these horrible placeholders in your game? After you suffer though their vomit-inducing resampled audio, and equally vomit-looking textures, you're going to buy them because you won't be able to stand how goddamn awful they are. Would you want these ruining your game every time you hear them mumble out some distorted bullshit? No, you'll end up buying them so you don't have to.

You gotta look at it from their perspective: they had their people create this DLC for people to use in their game, but they knew that it would rip apart their community. They solved it by having their guys do minimal work on making it a patch and make the good version pay only. They still need to pay their employees, you know.

I know there is a mod called "noBAF / BAF lite+" which replace BAF units by HI-RES ones. Also replace voices using the Americans ones. there is also unit replacement for PMC lite ;). Sorry for my bad English.

Well BIS did 2 good things and 1 bad.

Good1: It's a demo for those people that doesn't have addon.

Good2: They are keeping OA community together with addon community, making it one community. BTW the original base ARMA2 community is getting smaller and smaller because of combined operations community getting bigger.

Bad1: The low textures forced most people with lite not to use the lite weapons, vehicles or units online.

I'm buying addons now cause I'm forced and I want to support BIS.

This is a fucking joke, the speech sounds like Wolfenstein 3D. Although that thats probably a good thing since the voice acting in the expansion is just as bad in its own way, was obviously too hard for them to employ british voice actors.

This is probably the most cuntish thing i've seen done they might as well not bothered including them at all.

Ain't the point of having the lite version is to let people still be able to play on BAF enabled server and single player mission if they choose not to pay for the DLC?

Really, if you choose not to fuckin pay thats fine, afterall no one force you fuckin to, and you can still play mission/MP that have used BAF contain without being kickout by the server, but bitching at something for having much lower quality when choosen not to pay while the full pack cost $10 is pathetic.
