Irish music still doesn't sell in big numbers today. I know several top Irish performers whose albums did not sell in anything like the numbers you'd imagine. We tend to think that because we heard then on Irish radio, they must be swimming in money and record sales. Very few Irish artists make real money. We may love it, but in real terms it doesn't sell. Christy here moans 30 years later. But you can't run away from your debts for 30 years, then return & expect somebody else to have paid them.
-
The band was hugely in debt. Somebody had to pick up this debt. None of the band members paid their way. What is it with musicians whereby they feel the world owes them a living? Who paid their debts? What about the people who had to pay their bills for them? What other line of business exists on a footing whereby people expect to be paid for ever, when the business is losing money? Irish music was not selling. There was no money in Irish music back then & nobody in America was buying the music.

Coulter's songwriting ability is only matched by his capitalist profiteering!
-
Andy - There's no point in you writing to whoever Coulter got the 30 pieces of silver from. You need a rotweiller type lawyer to get you your dues - 'No Win - No Fee' basis - if nothing else he'll chew the balls off Coulter. Also Andy - How about getting the boys together for a LIVE Double album - As for a venue may i suggest the Standing Stones at Callanish, on the Isle of Lewis. (I think you may have been up here this year...?)
Everything you need is here...!

You don't hear producers complaining when the musicians are shite and they lose money on the albums. Then why should we listen to musicians when producers make money off their work?
Is Christy Moore poor? did he not make lots of money on this? If you don't like it don't sign the contract. If you did sign the contract AND collected the money - then don't call someone an arsehole for doing what they have every right to do - and you agreed with at the time.

it nearly brings me to tears that a hero of men such as Luke Kelly could sing the songs of such a poisonous wretch.
-
Not quite exact quote: 'There wasn't a queue for music by Planxty in the US'......my arse!! They were bloody brilliant and always will be!
