Myrtle Beach, SC has (or had) a small amusement park very close to the beach. It had a small roller coaster, ferris wheel and other assorted fair-type rides.

I recorded this on a family vacation to Myrtle Beach in late June 1988, and I have not been back since. Is the amusement park still there & operating?

From my vantage point, I had a clear view of the cars cruising down below, and soon I grew interested in recording just how many times I saw the same cars in a 10-minute period. All of the cars, of course, are no newer than 1989 models, so a peek back at what the cars looked like back then- even just 20 years ago- was a treat for me.

  • wat park is that?

  • @blotsafun Not sure of the name, or even if the park is still there.

  • Classic stuff there man! Thanks so much for posting this! As a matter of fact, i was there probably around this time back in 1988 in June. I was 7 years old at the time and remember some of it, not all of it. I do remember looking up at the Eli Ferris Wheel and almost rode it, but chickened out. LOL The Rainbow, i later rode when i was 13, after getting up the courage to ride it. They definately had better cars & trucks to look at back then. Now days, every car seems to be an Oval-shape.

  • I think I see you in the vid! You're the guy in the white shirt next to the other guy with the red striped shirt, right? LOL

    JK

I wonder how many of the cars seen in this video are still on the road?

see all

  • Thanks! What a shame all of that is gone now from what I understand. They made a big mistake taking away the 'heart' of Myrtle beach.

  • the was the pavilion and it was closed and torn down in 2006 sorry to say

  • That park was the Pavillion of Myrtle Beach, it is no longer there, torn down in 2005/6 for a hotel.

  • I truly miss this place

  • @001GenLee

this was the myrtle beach pavilion and it was torn down in 2006 after 100 years of operation

  • I trully miss the pavillion ,Memory of a time gone by.

  • @CincinnatiGifts The park is the Pavillion. They tore it down three years ago.

  • There's a few of those kind of cars around in the area. I miss the 3rd Generation Trans Ams & FireBirds though. I was and still am, a big Knight Rider fan. Of all the years the Pavilion was there, i never made it up to The Attic. I'm kicking myself for not going in there as i was always curious what went on in there. When you were panning the video camera towards the CorkScrew coaster, i could hear the lasers & sounds from the Mind Scrambler ride. Rode it alot, but i never rode Sky Tracker.
