Kid's gotta trade to catch a Caterpie? Sheesh, how bad is he at this game? They're one of the easiest Pokémon to catch and they're all over Viridian Forest.

Well, it's either an error made by the makers of the commercial (they perhaps missed that Caterpie is in fact easy to find on Blue version) or Drake Bell somehow completely failed to catch Caterpie earlier. I can't explain why he couldn't wait until he had gotten better Poké balls and/or weaker Pokémon to weaken the Caterpie with and go catch it in Viridian Forest instead of having it traded to him, but maybe he wanted to get a Butterfree 1.5 times faster?
