Punk: Attitude is a documentary on the history of punk rock in the USA and UK. The film traces the different styles of punk from their roots in 60s garage and psychedelic bands (Count Five, the Stooges) through glam-punk (New York Dolls) to the 70s New York and London scenes and into the hardcore present. Interviews with many of the musicians are edited with live clips and historical footage.

  • gekonum, I'm a 51 year old punk from "back in the day". Let me just say, "Yeah, you got it man!!!" Your comment is the absolute essence of punk! Great to know that its in good hands! :-]

Old heads and new should all pay attention ... it's not who came first, it's not what you wear, it's not how old you are, it's not where it came from. What's important is that you be yourself, push your own envelop ... and play your own music!

Thanks gekonum, for reminding us all.

  • who the fuck cars where did punk start :P, instead of watching youtube, get your guitars or something and play the god damn music

  • @gamergeektwo although bands like green day claim theyre punk but i disagree

  • i dont know if i am a punk or not, i dont dress like one (i know a lot of punks didnt have mohawks and leather jackets/ combat boots etc.) i am pretty much myself, everyone else around me is pretty much being like someone else to fit in but not me, i like what i am but i am very fond of punk music and just found out from my dad that he was one durin the 80's, but i jsut dont know can someone help me :P, but anyways i dont think punk is dead but jsut really underground like it was back then.

  • Mike Hunt's Honorable Discharge- what a great name! :P

  • @Flipper79able Althought out of the ashes of bands like the sex pistols you got bands like Public Image Ltd, which were more interesting IMHO

  • @waseldo PS I'm saying with the American punk,no matter who you were their was something for everyone. The Damned,The Pistols and The Clash seemed very similar so if that's the kind of punk you like than you got it, but if you like diversity American punk is more your style. That's why I also liked British punk as a teenager because they were in your face and very angry where as an adult my tastes are more diverse that's why I like American punk now because they weren't posing the way teens do.

  • @waseldo When I hear you talk about an American punk band that didn't leave the blues behind the first band that comes to mind are The Heartbreakers. If you think of American punk though they were so diverse it's hard to talk about an American punk style. The Ramones had the most basic bone headed three chords sped up like Chuck Berry on speed. Blondie was like pop music.Television and the Talking heads were like rock for art students. The Dead Boys sounded more like the Damned, Pistols and Clash.

  • @Flipper79able You are right propably.I think I just tried to say that MUSICALLY ,US punk could never escaped blues tradition.Which doesn`t work for me with punk ,but when blues meet noise in later bands like Cows or Unsane ,its bliss.

  • @waseldo U.K. Punk seemed a little more childish too. If you were to ask me my favorite punk band as a 15 year old I would say the Sex Pistols. As someone older now I would say the American punks seem more interesting...but's that's because the British punks were barley out of their teens and the American punks were mostly older......so trying hard to act outrageous just to shock seems a bit played out to someone who's already been through that.

  • 02:08 just nails the formation of punk in England...

    "Punk started in England"

    "Oh silly mother..."

    Cut to the Sex Pistols

  • Mark P of Sniffing Glue fame worked or still works for the DHSS. Very punk rock. You have to laugh.
