Some clarifications from Cardinal Arinze, at the time the Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments, the representative of Pope Benedict XVI for all matters pertaining to the Liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church.
Hi- Q: I go to a liberal Newman Center. We lack kneelers so the priest now says we MUST stand during consecration b/c of "local custom". A family was scolded [literally in the middle of Mass!] for kneeling- b/c it "breaks unity" [no issue kneeling for communion] In Mass- no exam. of conscience, Gospels are recited by memory-NOT read AND no Confession until 5 hrs AFTER 1st Mass. I'd change parishes but its 2HRs by bus to closest the Engl or Latin Mass-Should I contact the Bishop?

I appreciate Cardinal Arinze and his views on the subject of the mass, liturgical music, altar rails, altar boys, altar girls, Latin mass, the call for a return to adherence to the liturgy. Some priests "spice up" the mass. Some congregations fail to kneel at the consecration. He encourages those who want "dance" in the liturgy to spend their time reading Papal encylicals on the eucharist instead. There is no document of the church calling for the removal of kneelers or communion rails, right?
