This final clip of a day at the Bodmin and Wenford Railway on 2/9/11 was only intended to be of the City of Truro departing from Bodmin Parkway station and I was already to pack up (one camera already packed away) and go back to Plymouth but it finished being a lot longer than expected.
I was just about to call it a day when something didn't sound right. As you will see and hear 3717 was having a hard job getting a good speed and grip on the gradient and had to have three attempts even though it was a dry day.
This Cornish line has steep gradients all the way to Bodmin General station with some as steep as 1 in 37 so the engines all have to work very hard on the climb.
***** News received today (Sun 4/9/11) is that the City of Truro has been withdrawn due to leaking boiler tubes, maybe this was adding to, or caused the problem she was having on Friday ??, your guess.

Did you know what was happening on that trip, a bit confused I suspect ?.

  • @MrTllr

Alfred and Judy are lovely little engines, proper little work horses. As you say Truro is tired and could do with a good overall I suspect, and as you say not intended for cornish hilly lines.

Just seemed difficult getting a grip, maybe should have had a banker helping up the hill ??
