Constructing a pentagon by 1st, dividing any given line in to the "divine" ratio. Which means AC squared is equal to the rectangle formed by AC and CD (or AC multiplied by CD).

Once you have that division; construct a circle from the "given" line AD. Then, with your compass point at D, swing the length AC to intersect the circle. The connnect that new lenght to points C and A. That triangle is the sought after isosceles triangle.

Inscribe the isosceles triangle in a circle. The base of which triangle is the side of your sought for pentagon!
