@MuffinMario u stand corrected there. no fear of the snappy dialogue drying up on this thread! the title sounds like an english writers approximation of what "irish girl" would be in italian...but its the name of the steeple? hmmm....great movie great song, but i prefer the millers crossing redition.

@thetazmaniak13 mike starr did a great job, just not the whole song...

@MuffinMario he is just referencing the scene in miller's crossing where mike starr {actor} sings it while he and the dane and tic-tac lead tom out into the woods to kill him if they don't find bernie's body...it is what brought me here...to hear pavarotti sing it properly.

@xTinyJrx14 It's not 'from' "Miller's Crossing". This is a very old song that praises the church steeple of Pavarotti's home town, Modena. It was one of the songs that started his career. He was a young man when he won an award for singing it at a singing contest in Wales.

Grande la Ghirlandeina.... grande e gialloblu

As I correctly remember Fernando Pavarotti, Luciano's father, sang this song in early times.

La Ghirlandeina, la sua città, Modena, i suoi miti ed i prodotti della sua terra.
The Ghirlandeina, his hometown, Modena, its myths and the products of his land.
Pavarotti was larger than life. The only tenor consistently better than Caruso, in my view. Unbeatable at his peak. His passing left an enormous hole in the world of opera. He remains my hero of voice. Nice tribute!
