A Fight for the Land

The city of Lawrence, Kansas wants to build a trafficway through an area of wetlands south of the Haskell Indian Nations University campus. The students of Haskell have filed a lawsuit temporarily blocking the trafficway, but the state is still looking for ways to get around it. The area is considered historic to the school and to alumni and students. This fight is not new though as many tribes are fighting state, local and federal governments to keep lands they consider sacred from being developed. From the San Francisco Peaks in Arizona, to the Comanche in Oklahoma where they want to build a base in a place they pray, to building nucleaur repositories in the Moutains in Nevada, Native American lands are consistently being taken for uses that destroy their uniqueness. This video is dedicated to all those who fight for their lands and those students at Haskell who consistently keep that fight going to the next group of students who come through. Here in Maine I know people that may loose their homes that they have spent thier whole lives in because enviro"mental"ist's don't want a new highway to go thru wetlands. Thier homes are on gorgeous land that that thay have carefully maintained for three generations. Maybe once we are done destroying good land because we don't want to ruin wetlands we will have to live on the moon.

Over the last Eight years the U.S. has Restored, Improved or protected about 4 million acres of wetland. It makes me wonder how many homes we have destroyed to save a swamp, or how many beutiful wooded areas we have ruined to save a swamp. Have some common sense and think of all the sides of evey story. OH MY GOODNESS!!!! Yes they are building a WALMART on/in ours right by the river in the area that is the traffic way for the geese and ducks and migrating birds they say they can go up river... ya sure thousands of years of natural direction what will they give them a street sign. This sort of thing makes me sick!!!
