Awesome advice! It is so easy for us to think that other people "owe" us something, but the truth is that everything we do in the world, we do (or did) it, because we CHOSE to do it. Take responsibility for your decisions, and move forward with your life from a position of strength.
It sounds like the real issue might not be Jim's initial decision to give things up for his wife, but a perceived lack of mutual consideration, in which case simply accepting the decision will not be enough. Either way, it sounds like Jim and his wife should talk about their expectations for and needs from each other.
