The variometer in allied aircraft shows rate of climb/descent in thousands of feet per minute, so a climb of 1 = 1.000 feet per minute climb ;)
In axis and russian aircraft it's usually in meters per second.
paraphrased from the Hawker Tempest mk V pilot's notes: The maximum permissible r.p.m. in combat: 3.700 r.p.m.
When talking about 40.000 rpm, you're talking jet engines ;)
Great tutorial, hope you keep the series going.
