Melatonin is a hormone secreted from the pineal gland; its concentration in the blood varies throughout the day, peaking at night-time, triggering sleepiness. Melatonin levels seem to decrease with age, which may explain why the elderly have more problems sleeping than children.

    Sweet cherries don't compare. Tart Montmorecy cherries are off the chart compared to other fruits and berries for melatonin.
