Recent snowfall meant that some P.E. classes start the semester at Antioch High School by trekking to the athletic fields for cross country skiing. Except for days when wind and temperatures are extreme, teacher Jeff Moxley takes his junior and senior students to the field house at the football stadium to select boots, skis and poles before heading out onto the small course set up around the baseball fields. Before getting on skis, students are taught proper use of the equipment, dressing for the weather, and techniques for skiing uphill, downhill and turns. Cross country skiing provides an excellent cardio workout, which students will work up to in the weeks ahead. A short written test is also part of the four- to five-week unit.
