Punches to the head used to be allowed in Kyokushin competition but due to the high level of hand conditioning and the power generated the injuries were simply too many to make it a viable competition form.

@GuamKomudo Being a taekwondo practicioner I did shotokan for some time before starting kyokushin and sparred with some shotokan dudes, I didn't see the speed nor power you are talking about. I was only a blue belt and could easily dominate a shotokan black belt... After joining kyokushin, I sparred with another shotokan black belt, this one faster, but without real power nor continuity in his strikes... seems my "slow" momo mawashi geris did the job pretty well. OSU!

Shotokan will end your world if you walk up with your guard like in Kyokushin, straight punch to the face, he will be in and out so fast with a single KO punch... DON'T forget the traditional strikes to the head!!! OSSSSUUUUUUUU!!!! =D

@Honisch3991 I noticed the same thing when I starting practicing kyokushin... and I liked this fact very much because I realized this guard and way of punching is more effective than the traditional one when you are sparring in a continuous fashion. However we still practice traditional stances like zenkutsu dachi and kokutsu dachi, but they are mainly used for kihon, kata and sometimes defense. Osu!

youre an idiot if you think there is one ultimate fighting style
everything depends on the fighter himself
but still nice fights
The question about punches to the face is always boring. Who talks about: no kicks in boxing,no gouge to the eyes or no fingers crush in bjj, no throws or big gloves in muay thai, no stomp in mma etc... It is just competition rules,a sport. That's it! All of what you see in any fight,no matter the style is what is not really dangerous. If it was ,it wouldn't be allowed. So why always comparing things. It is not war or self defence,it is sport with rules. Everybody tries to be the best at their MA

If you stepped into a true Kyokushin Dojo and sparred with some of the fighters there you would have a great appreciation for the skill, experience, will and spirit of Kyokushin. You would also be feeling a great deal of pain for which you have not been conditioned to receive with any other martial arts you may have studied. Then you would reconsider calling this lame.
