Volvo has developed 'Alcoguard', which uses fuel-cell technology to accurately read a person's blood alcohol level. In order to start a vehicle, the driver must blow into a wireless hand-held unit.

  • then the car wont start

  • its good but, do you really think that the drunk people would remember this test we getting in the car...ridiculous

  • I would like to help with my technology, for a greener world.......

  • Fantastic idea. It's been on the card for a long while. Mercedes, Volvo and Audi quite often lead with innovation.

  • This WILL NEVER happen in the US. Insurance companies will bite of thier heads.

  • Won't happen in the US. Which party do you think will propose such a thing?

  • A lawsuit against Volvo by some dumb bloke who'll say, "I had 2 beers and the breathalyser let me drive. Then I smashed my car into a tree. Your car isn't safe, man."

  • then he probably has a lot of fun when wrecking the car.

  • lawsuit against who? the people that wrecked the car and then claimed insurance?

  • OK, I see a potential lawsuit. Some people can have 2 beers or 2 martinis at a bar, pass the breath test, and still smash their cars on the highway!
