From the 1988 recording conducted by Leonard Bernstein, Jerry Hadley sings Che gelida manina.

This recording is posted with 2 purposes, one I'll keep for myself, the other one is to pay tribute to Hadley. I didn't get Hadley, and this recording reminded me, and taught me how truly amazing his voice was. Rather than dwell on the sadness, let's bask in the beauty of the singing.

For those interested in the cast, one of the slides lists it.

Enjoy!

  • I heard Hadley in Chicago in house and he was terrific when I heard him and in UNA FURTIVA HE BROUGHT THE HOUSE DOWN BUT DON'T FORGET NEIL SHICOFF AN AMERICAN TENOR, WAS REALLY ALSO AND STILL IS A GREAT AMERICAN TENOR, BORN IN 1949 I HEARD HIM IN HOUSE MANY MANY TIMES, POWER, BEAUTY AND HE CAN ACT, NOW 60 YEARS OLD.

  • Shicoff was something very special too. I heard a broadcast of Idimeneo from last year and I was not impressed by the state of the voice. He was a wonderful Hoffman.

  • The BEST, the best Bohéme¡¡¡¡ & Jerry..... SIMPLY, THE BEST IN THIS ARIA.... All this version... the best.......... WOW WOW WOW¡¡¡¡ Ariadna Menéndez Rodríguez.

  • @ptgunit The problem is not mine, the problem is of those who insist that America only means USA. Juan Diego Fl;ores, a peruvian is just as much an American as Hadley. The ethocentric attitude that one is and the other one isn't is the problem and those who adhere to it are the ones who have thr problem.

  • @tenore23 America is part of the USA's formal name. It's not North or South, simply America. How is that that a problem?

  • @tenore23

    Ah, I totally agree, dear

  • @Vendimi3 I know, but it is time that we stop using the America = USA. There are a LOT of Americans that are not USA citizens or have ever been to the USA.

  • @tenore23

For American he probably meant: from the United States

  • (Refer to neil shicoff below)

  • Well he has had some up and down minor health issues and is 60 now, not 40's of course,he did a lot of singing giving 100% always since his met debut in 1976 he does not have a cast iron throat but as late as 2/05 he sang in Tosca in Chicago with Millo and gave a great show, really had people cheering . He was a terrific Hoffman in his prime and a fine Lensky so he lasted in prime voice for many years. Liked His early Werther from France, 1979. Saw him in Boheme 79' Chicago, he was terrific.
