To all of you sharing the knowledge you have, thank you. I am also self taught and it was a pain staking process. You shouldnt have to pay to learn something you love. Some artists in shops dont even know what they are doing. Share the knowledge. Keeping secrets is what fucks peoples skin up.

You've gotta be joking. I've been a tattoo artist for a while, and can only say I'm ashamed at how stuck up and rude other artists have become. I must say anybody who believes an apprenticeship is the ONLY way to learn is not only full of shit, but as well probably lying about their status as an "artist" anyway. Many of us gained our knowledge by tattooing OUR OWN SKIN. Trial an error for you new guys. Read some books, watch other artists, maybe watch a video. Blood pathegen knowledge is a must.

@OCLibertine i heard some ppl have to pay for they're apprentaships which sucks....come to australia and do one you get 50% comission so they pay you for what you do.

@StacieWacieee Lets see the tattoos youve done and we can be the judge of that ;) I can already picture it in my mind...the usual horrible washed out shaky line blemish that people bring into my shop all day everyday that need to be covered. But yeah, keep at it, more coverup business for me.

@SpikeVE So what about other industries where you need schooling that needs to be paid for and when all that is said and done you start at the bottom and work your way up if youre good at what you do? Why do you feel that in this business you have the right to start at the top and not have to go through the ringer like the rest of us? please explain since you know so much. and if you tattoo let me see your portfolio ;)

@merlin theres a big difference between driving, horse riding and tattooing my friend. these hacks tattoo people out of their homes without any regard for the people they tattoo. Driving and horse riding has nothing to do with lives, skin, blood, disease, cross contamination and so on. They have no way of disposing of dirty needles and make tattooing look bad bc they dont know what theyre doing. For some reaon ppl feel they should have a free ride in a business.

i think some of the best tattoo artists out there are somewat self taught. who learn to tattoo on the own and on there selfs. some people cant afford apprenticeship, and love the art of tattooing and want to fallow there dreams on becoming a tattoo artist someday and the only way to do so is to learn themself. ya being clean and sterile is a must. but come on people, give self taught artists a break, at least they are fallowing there dreams. and wanting to better there lifes
