That's precisely the trouble with the mindset behind the new economy, though: it's not about the employee at all, and all about how that employee may be useful to the company. It's gone very one-sided today. I remember not too long ago that there was more balance in the workplace: you contributed your skills and productivity, but the company also felt a sense of stewardship over its people and gave training opportunities and other support to the motivated. Now? People are expendable commodities.
