Funny, I learned something new. I can imagine this is the way it went, after all the nazis believed the Luftwaffe to crush the RAF. And Hitler often thought he was smart although often his orders undermined and contradicted chosen strategies. I assume the men of the Kriegsmarine weren't too happy about it.

After all they got rid of the yellow/black stripes and the false wave effects at the stern and bow to make the Bismarck look more like a ship of the Royal Navy.
