On my 92 Metro, I have the bone stock exhaust minus the cat I scrapped to the cash, and I added an old 93 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3L V6 resonator in it's place, it's about 24" long and 2" in and 2" out so that along with the stock exhaust and muffler it's not too loud. It's not ideal at all but it's the cheapest possible ehxuast I could make, actually I made money off of it, got rid of junk in my garage and made a bit more power so it turned out perfect.
To be technically correct an engine performs best with no backpressure. You want to build an exhaust according to the engine's size/power. You want piping that's large enough for flow well but small enough to flow at the highest velocity possible with no restrictions. You'd be extremely lucky to engineer the perfect exhaust, so a little backpressure is better than not enough scavenging so that the valve seals burn which is where the myth of backpressure being good came from.
I would like to make this car legal enough to drive on public roads! It would TURN SOME HEADS! lol. Or just drive the sun of a bitch in gravel and jump it until it dies. or restore it. lol
