Interview with UW-Whitewater P.R. Alum Kristin Gritt, Corporate Social Media Manager of Great Wolf Resorts.

It's actually a funny story, I went to school, I started out at UW-Washington County and I was going to school as to be an accountant, I got my associates degree there and I transferred to UW- whitewater because they are one of the top national schools for accounting. And I started my junior year, first semester through it and I was like what am I doing this is awful. I really liked accounting and it came easy to me, that is why I was like "yea I'll do this, but I will be bored out of my mind." So I randomly picked up an intro to P.R. class with Ann Knabe and I had no idea what the profession was but I fell in love with it from that class. I was like oh my- gosh this is what I want to do. So I met with Ann and we worked it out where I just changed my major. It took me a little longer to graduate then, but it was totally worth it; so that's how I kind of fell into P.R.
I tried to get involved with as much as I could just to get, I mean that's where you are going to get experience. So I held the fundraising chair, I held the special events, I was the vice president and the president, so whatever I could, I jumped on just because that is where you are going to get the experience. I also did three intern ships.

  • You can tell she is passionate about her job. I like that she mentions to get experience and tells her specific examples from her career.

  • Being involved has been extremely beneficial for Ms. Gritt. She has been involved in PRSSA and multiple internships, and she provides great advice and experience within everything she does and it is really inspiring and I hope that in the long run, I see myself that dedicated in what I do as well!

  • Sounds like her many internships and involvement in PRSSA have been a great help. I agree people and involvement will play a huge role in finding a job. As she mentioned, finding your passion is key.

  • I like that she really emphasizes social media. It really makes me feel like what we are doing in class, isn't a waste of time. It's a reassurance, not the I don't trust Ann, but it's always nice to hear it from someone else as well.

  • She has a great resume so far and I'm sure she'll just move up from this point.

  • I like that Ms. Gritt says she "fell" into her major, because that the same experience I had with my major, arts management. It's great to hear that she loves what she's doing. I think she's right about having so many internships and using them as a networking tool to get a job after school. I like how involved she has been with learning about social media and its cutting edge use. She seems like the type of person who sees what she wants and goes for it.

  • Ms. Gritt, really expresses the importance of being involved and getting internships and being proactive in your career. I would definitely have to say that UWW is great at getting its student's involved and showing them what they need to do to become successful in their futures. I also love how she expresses that personality is a huge and important part in your interview process and is what is lands your job. Its important to be personable and enthusiastic!

  • Getting involved is extremely important because it shows you’re a well rounded student. Internships show that you can apply what you’re learning in the classroom to real world experienced. Kristin's information was extremely beneficial because it emphasis’s internship experience. DM

  • I really wanted to do something in Business as well, but I found it kind of boring, and that's where I found PR as well!!! Getting involved is HUGE! I think that after viewing this video, I am ready to go out and find internships as well as organizations. Contacting the head of PR was a really good idea!

  • I am also staying in school a little bit longer to go after a degree in Public Relations and I am happy to say I am doing so, much like she did. Working for the Milwaukee Bucks would be such a fun endeavor, I would really like to work for a sports firm myself!
