Breadboarded up the circuit for Solarbotics' pummer kit. I'm building it without the PCB so I wanted to do a little proof of concept and planning for my free-forming. Surprisingly, it worked the first time I plugged in the batteries!

A pummer is like a nocturnal electronic plant. It absorbs light during the day through a solar cell and then at night, when darkness falls, it flashes an LED. It flashes the LED with a gradual decay, kind of like a charging Powerbook.

  • Is it possible to build one 74hc240 instead of 74ac?

  • I'm attempting to build the WSG and I guess I'm kind of confused by breadboarding. For the LED here, should it be shorted by the connection which goes between the two leads on the breadboard?

  • cool!!! but why it still lighting for a while?

  • but then it would just run out of charge. This thing recharges off light during the day. That's the whole point.

  • you should of justed a 555 timer
