To celebrate London Weekend Television's 40th anniversary on Sarurday 2nd August 2008 here is a recreation of the start-up routine following the familiar IBA ETP-1 testcard accompanied by 400Hz tone and then the PM5544 testcard with 900Hz tone. Enjoy!!!!

  • No, it doesn't look like they are: they are axing even more regions now.

  • Anything to save money!!!! The ITV staff are now threatening industrial action as a result of this decision.

  • Christ I wish I had a time machine. Modern life really is shit compared to 35 years ago.

  • I wonder if ITV bosses are regreting their decision to axe ITV regions

  • I loved regional ITV, our region was Granada, but i am glad i wasn't around when they had these long start-ups and engineering announcements. Kids must have hated having to watch these. My two older siblings said they got bored watching these before childrens programmes started during the holidays.

  • Shame that this is just a mock-up, and not real. It would be nice to see the real thing!

  • that noise is irratating on this clip hurts ones ears

  • Hold the phone! Are we talking about the possibility of an all-out strike of a similar calibre to Summer 1979, which would cause ITV plc regions to go off the air, conqsequently leaving only Channel, UTV and the two SMG stations broadcasting. That would be quite something by 2008 standards.

  • All we get on ITV (and BBC and CH4 to be fair) is what I cal reality, celebrity, talent show crap!!! X-Factor, Britains got Talent, America's got talent, American Idol, All Star Family Fortunes (the 'Star' bit should get ITV in trouble under the Trades Description Act), Dancing on Ice, Im a 'Celebrity' get my flagging career back on track and so on.

ITV is really a shadow of its former self. Here in Leeds, the ITV/YTV studios have even lost the famous yellow Y chevron!!!! Shame!!!!

  • I would hope so but I doubt it. Money before everything these days.
