They're very different. I would even say they belong to differente genres. The Japanese one is part of the huge collection of horror movies that have been made in the past years in Japan. On the other hand, this one is directed by a man (Walter Sales) that has a thing for human emotions, his typical genre is not horror, but drama. This movie focus on the life and the issues of this woman (most beautiful and most talented Jennifer Connelly).

I totally agree! it's rather drama than horror.. and this movie was bad promoted when they made it seem to be thriller one.

I always cry at the end too. She's saying goodbye to her mother, remembering her mommy reading her that story on the couch, those two perfect teardrops fall from her eyes...and then moments later her mother comes to her on the elevator. I cry buckets every time.

this movie is more drama than horror, but Jennifer Connelly was terrific!

i can be in the happiest mood ever in the beginning of this movie, but i always turn out crying at that ending.. haha.. Jennifer Connelly was amazing in this!

This movie was poorly advertised.

An INCREDIBLE movie. But it's true classification would be better under "Gothic Drama" than "Horror".

Actually this version is drama, not scary. The Japanese version (or Korean, don't know which) is scary as hell !

In my opinion the American remake is not as good as the original, as usual... But Jennifer Connelly is stll a great actress. Loved her in "Requiem for a Dream", a movie you MUST watch if you like her.

She played in this movie as I never seen before. She was just awesome in this movie... I watch this movie every week just to see her playing. No other actress could have played this part better. The story, the acting ...all this makes this movie great.
