A tribute to my parents. A video montage of their wedding and honeymoon created by my cousin, Dave Nettum. Thank you!!! Love and miss you both!
A little Vegas history... The Sands Hotel was the 7th hotel built on the Las Vegas strip on December 15, 1952 and was the center of Vegas entertainment during its heydey. This hotel hosted many popular entertainers and has been in scenes of several movies (including the final scenes of Con Air, which I just watched).. This hotel closed its doors on June 30, 1996. The Sands hotel was imploded on November 26, 1996 (after 44 years of operation) and the Venetian was built in it's place. You can see this implosion on Youtube. I am willing to bet that my parents would not have wanted to witness that...
The Desert Inn was the 5th hotel built on the strip on April 24, 1950. This hotel featured an 18-hole golf course. The Desert Inn was purchased by Steve Wynn on April 27, 2000. It was officially closed on August 28 that same year and the final towers were imploded on November 16, 2004. The Wynn now stands in its place and is still the only hotel on the strip with a golf course. The Wynn also features a country club and tennis courts. This par 70 championship course features dramatic elevations, waterfalls, streams and a forest of trees. My dad would have been in heaven had he been able to play this course today!!
In the 10 or so times I have been to Las Vegas, I never once visited the Sands Hotel or the Desert Inn... :(
