This time I am running through how to construct the collar ready for attachment. The Sewing Guru is a website designed in such a way that it is entirely video based and so it makes learning so much easier. • Hello Lunadalioonly1.

The stand is the part that goes around the neck with the collar being the decorative part that folds downwards and that everyone sees. With no stand the top of the shirt or blouse would sit too low and not fit right. Maybe your pattern piece is a collar and stand in one and in that case would be fine. If not you need to make a stand that will fit onto the top of the blouse and onto the bottom of the collar just like in the video.

    Good luck and regards.

  • what happens if I attach a collar directly to the shirt without a "stand" (I think that is what you called it) on a woman's blouse? My pattern has it that way, but I've never seen it on clothing that way. Will the collar sit awkwardly without the stand?

  • thanks a lots for the clearly demonstration, the shape of the collar is what i am looking for, so now i will start cutting my collar.
