Persuasion by Jane Austen

Persuasion 1995 ( BBC) with Amanda Rooth & Ciarán Hinds
Persuasion 2007 (ITV) with Sally Hawkins & Rupert Penry-Jones

Music : Song for Sienna by Brian Crain

Persuasion is my second fav Jane Austen's novel - first is P&P , of course ! I love the letter Capt Frederick Wentworth wrote to Annie Elliot , simply beautiful ! So , I wanna join these two wonderful productions but , unfortunately , the letter is not complete in any of them . For anyone interested , the original letter follows below :

"I can listen no longer in silence.
I must speak to you by such means as are within my reach.
You pierce my soul.
I am half agony, half hope.
Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone for ever.
I offer myself to you again with a heart even more your own than when you almost broke it, eight years and a half ago.
Dare not say that man forgets sooner than woman, that his love has an earlier death.
I have loved none but you.
Unjust I may have been, weak and resentful I have been, but never inconstant.
You alone have brought me to Bath.
For you alone, I think and plan.
Have you not seen this?
Can you fail to have understood my wishes?
I had not waited even these ten days, could I have read your feelings,
as I think you must have penetrated mine.
I can hardly write.
I am every instant hearing something which overpowers me.
You sink your voice, but I can distinguish the tones of that voice when they would be lost on others.
Too good, too excellent creature!
You do us justice, indeed.
You do believe that there is true attachment and constancy among men.
Believe it to be most fervent, most undeviating, in

F. W.

I must go, uncertain of my fate;
but I shall return hither, or follow your party, as soon as possible.
A word, a look, will be enough to decide
whether I enter your father's house this evening or never."

  • But thank you for creating this video! In the end, it's all about Anne and Wentworth, and their painful, but beautiful journey back to each other. /sigh/ I love Jane Austen!

  • @imnotacommittee , you're right , in the end it's Jane Austen ! ^_^ Wentworth is one of my favs characters of Jane Austen - first always Darcy ! I loved Ciáran Hinds - his captain is so closer to the book - but I'm a fan of Rupert Penry-Jones ! So , I loved both versions but what I really love is the letter - unfortunately it wasn't complete ! Thank you so much for your comments and for watching ! ^_^

  • That was a beautiful video! I especially enjoyed the music. Ive only seen the 2007 Persuasion version but this has made me want to watch the 1995 version as well.

  • @irismtz2502 ,I'm glad you liked , you're very kind ! Both versions are amazing , I'm sure you'll enjoy it too ! ^_^ Thank you so much for watching and comment !

  • OMG I feel so pathetic crying all alone in my bedroom, because everytime I read or hear about this letter I feel something inside, and I start crying for no apparent reason. I mean, I feel related to this because I am on the half of this story, and I want with my entire heart that MY Cap Wentworth comes back at me. I mean don't we all feel like chills in the skin when Anne is reading the letter and then reaching for the Cap, don't we all want to be Anne in that moment?

  • @andrefb15 , so we are both pathetic because this letter always moves me ! ^_^ When I read the book for the first time , Cpt Wentworth was almost like Ciarán Hinds and being Anne was like a dream ! But when I watched the remake with Rupert Penry -Jones... I really wanna be her ! :))) This romance is always amazing and for me , the top is always this letter , who doesn't wanna be the reason of such feelings ? ;))

Thank you so much for your beautiful comment and for watching ! ^_^

  • Do you know that there is a Jane Austen font available on the Net? I have The Letter printed out in Jane's "handwriting" on my wall...:-) (Yeah, I'm pathetic, I know! Love being a Janeite!)

  • The 1995 version is worlds above the 2007 version, which is a shame. I would've loved the 2007 version if it followed Austen's story as she wrote it. There are some beautiful moments in it. But its mangling of the Letter and the awful kiss ruined it for me. The way he makes her work for it is so unfair. She may have broken his heart in the past, but he didn't act very kindly to her when he returned. They both have things to atone for, and her doing all the work ruins their growth as characters.

  • @theatomproject , you're very kind ! ^_^ thank you for watching and comment !
